Rasoļņiks are impromptu freeform back2back or back3back cross-genre/mashup mixes done by DJ hosts of the radio show RASOLS on Radio Naba 93.1 FM (Riga, Latvia) – Arno, Bombey and Snobo – in various combinations. Named after traditional Russian soup, the recipe of which allows endless combinations of ingredients and possibilities to experiment. “Rasols”, in turn, is a traditional Latvian salad, also known for numerous ingredients and high nutritional value.
These mixes are normally done without any or with little preparations, always improvisational, highly eclectic, experimenting with spoken word & field recordings, effects, often layering many tracks at once. Usually recorded at Bombey’s place or live at events.
